Bangladesh reclaimed the coveted football gold medal of the SA Games after a span of 11 years with a facile 4-0 victory over Afghanistan in the final held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Monday. Atikur Rahman Mishu, Enamul Huq, Abdul Baten Komol and Towhidul Alam Sobuj struck for the champions who dominated all the way through and presented the host country the 18th gold medal of the meet. Bangladesh wrapped their campaign with the gold medal believed to be the most precious of the sports extravaganza. Bangladesh booters produced excellent commitment, maintained the same rhythm and were focused to their duties that categorically made the difference. Afghanistan defeated strong Maldives by 1-0 in second semi-final to move to Final of Football at SAG. Belal Arezou of Afghanistan scored first and only Goal on 72nd minute of the play. Afghanistan will now face on Host Bangladesh in the final on 8th Feb, 2010. Maldives will take on India for Bronze medal match.

Afghanistan is 8th Nation to take part in South Asian Games. It took first appearance in 2004, where it won 1 Gold, 3 Silver and 28 Bronze medals.
